Under the MSCA-2022 call, only 2.2% of the 1 235 projects awarded belonged to the Mathematics group, i.e. a total of 27 proposals, reflecting the rigour of the selection process and the exceptional quality of the projects funded.
The Department of Mathematicsof the University of Luxembourg (DMATH) has achieved a remarkable feat by obtaining three MSCA postdoctoral fellowships, which represents a significant part of the total number of fellowships awarded under the Mathematics Panel. These scholarships were awarded to Alexey Balitskiy, Kate Vokes and Tommaso Cremaschi, who specialise in geometry, underlining the department’s excellence in this field.
The selected researchers expressed their enthusiasm for their work at the University of Luxembourg, citing the expertise of Professor Hugo Parlier and the stimulating research environment within the Geometry Group.
In addition, the dynamic nature of geometry was illustrated by Balitskiy’s insight in his application to quantum error correction codes and his collaboration with other scientific disciplines.
The MSCA focuses on excellence and encourages the mobility of candidates. Mathematicians from the University of Luxembourg will engage in collaborative activities with academic entities such as the University of Nottingham, the Freie Universität Berlin and the Institut Gaspard Monge.
These scholarships offer the laureates the opportunity to advance their academic careers and make a significant contribution to research in mathematics and geometry, as mentioned by Mr Cremaschi: “The travel money and prestige of this scholarship will help me advance my research agenda and submit a stronger application.”
