On October 4th, a meeting took place between Prime Minister and Minister for Communications and Media, Xavier Bettel, and Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, and Young Sang Ryu, President and CEO of SK Telecom (SKT), to explore potential collaborations in this domain.

SKT is currently working on the establishment of South Korea’s inaugural nationwide government quantum-safe network. Within the framework of the memorandum of understanding inked with Luxembourg, the company is contemplating establishing a presence in Luxembourg, with the aim of fostering mutually beneficial opportunities within the Luxembourg quantum ecosystem.

Quantum computing represents an exceptionally potent form of computation that leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, a branch of physics dedicated to investigating atomic and subatomic scales. It has the capability to solve intricate problems significantly faster than classical computing.

In Luxembourg, quantum technology holds a prominent position, with the Ministry of State overseeing Luxembourg’s Quantum Communications Infrastructure project (LuxQCI). This initiative is geared towards establishing secure communications capable of defending against cyber threats. Additionally, in 2022, the University of Luxembourg launched its inaugural quantum communication testbed, aimed at facilitating advanced and applied research in quantum key distribution and the development of the quantum internet.
