On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2025, the Luxembourg Government reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality in STEM and digital. Access to digital skills is recognised as a key lever to enable women and girls to participate fully in the professions of the future and in the digital transition.

As part of the European Union’s Digital Decade, Luxembourg is implementing an ambitious roadmap to reduce the gender gap in digital professions and ensure that 80% of the population is proficient in basic digital skills by 2030.

This strategy is led by the Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy Service (MCS), in partnership with several ministries, educational organizations, associations and private sector actors. Through the *Innovative Initiatives* platform, the MSC supports concrete actions to raise awareness, train and support girls and women towards digital careers.

Three priority axes guide this approach:

  • Awareness-raising and access to digital technology through educational campaigns and actions to deconstruct gender stereotypes;
  • Training and acquisition of skills, ranging from initiation to artificial intelligence to specialisations in cybersecurity;
  • Immersive experiences and career guidance, promoting the practical discovery of professions through partnerships between schools, companies and institutions.

Specific initiatives, such as women’s support groups in AI and IT, mentoring programmes and in-company internships, strengthen the inclusion of women in the digital economy.

The Luxembourg government thus affirms its desire to make diversity a driver of innovation, by placing gender equality at the heart of the country’s digital transformation.

The theme of the 2025 International Day of Girls in ICT, to be celebrated on 24 April, will be ‘Girls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation’.
