Luxembourg ranks 11th out of 174 economies in the IMF’s new AI Readiness Index, which assesses four areas: digital infrastructure, human capital and labour market policies, innovation and economic integration, and regulation. Just before Nexus2050 in Luxembourg, this index shows that the country is well positioned in the field of artificial intelligence, ranking second for AI ethics, fifth for digital infrastructure and tenth for human capital and employment policies. However, Luxembourg needs to improve its ranking in innovation and economic integration, where it is only 27th.
The IMF points out that AI can increase productivity and opportunities for around 30% of jobs in advanced economies. Workers who are able to use this technology could see an increase in their wages and productivity, while those who are unable to do so risk falling behind, especially older workers.
The IMF recommends that policymakers in advanced economies expand social safety nets, invest in worker training, and prioritise innovation and AI integration. It also calls for global coordination to strengthen regulation and protect against potential abuses of AI. For emerging and developing economies, the focus should be on investments in digital infrastructure and digital training of workers.
