The Eurocities Digital Divide Task Force is launching a survey to understand the competency profile of workers who are also digital helpers. The task force is committed to reducing digital inequalities in our cities.

In order to develop a curriculum and training for digital helpers, based on cities’ experience, the task force would like to know what skills and tools are needed to correctly support urban dwellers with their digital issues.

As the progressing digital transformation of our societies puts vulnerable people further at risk, the Digital Divide task force is committed to fighting digital inequalities in our cities.

During the last decade, and particularly since COVID-19, digitalisation of public services, has changed the core activities of social workers and other people in direct contact with citizens in need. Due to the lack of basic digital skills in the population, an increasing number of citizens are requiring help from civil servants to use digital devices and access digital services. Now partly digital helpers, social workers and city departments need to be equipped with the necessary tools and skills.

This brief survey will generate useful information about the competency profile of workers who are also digital helpers. It will help us understand what skills and tools are needed to correctly support citizens with their digital issues. The survey will also provide input to develop curriculum and training for digital helpers, based on cities’ experiences.

Are you a social worker? Are you working in a department in direct contact with the citizens of your city? Do you help citizens with digital issues?  Share your thoughts through this survey! The deadline is 6 December 2023.

The results of the questionnaire will be shared by mid-January and insights will inform further activities of the task force.
