The Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy offers financial support for research and development (R&D) projects focusing on experimental development. These projects aim to use and combine scientific, technological and commercial knowledge to develop new products, processes and services, or to improve existing ones, particularly with regard to digitalisation. Experimental development differs from industrial and fundamental research, as it serves as a link between theoretical concepts and practical implementation. It may result in a market-ready product or service, with a grant covering part of the eligible costs directly linked to those activities.
Criteria and Eligibility
Private companies and research institutes based in Luxembourg may benefit from this support, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. The percentages of co-financing are adapted to the size of the company:
- Small businesses: up to 45% of costs can be co-financed.
- Medium-sized enterprises: up to 35% of costs can be co-financed.
- Large enterprises: up to 25% of costs can be co-financed.
- In case of effective collaboration with other partners, additional funding of 15% may be granted.
Benefits of the Program
The main benefits of the program include the reduction of financial risks associated with R&D projects and an optimized application process. This aid allows companies to better manage the costs and uncertainties associated with experimental development, while accelerating innovation and the placing on the market of new products.
Application Process
Interested companies must submit their application via the online platform MyGuichet.lu. The Ministry offers support throughout the process, from the eligibility assessment to the submission of the application. Companies are encouraged to contact the Ministry for personalised advice and to explore how this funding can fit into their long-term strategy.
