LuxChat4gov is an instant messaging platform specifically designed to meet the secure communication needs of Luxembourg governments and public entities. The idea of creating LuxChat4gov emerged following the observation made about the confidentiality of data and the protection of sensitive information within public administrations, which is becoming a key issue. With the rise of information and communication technologies, governments are increasingly faced with the need to find secure solutions to exchange sensitive and confidential information.
LuxChat4gov's objectives are multiple. First, the platform aims to provide a secure and reliable communication channel for officials and policymakers to exchange sensitive information such as personal data, government strategies or confidential action plans. In addition, LuxChat4gov seeks to facilitate inter-ministerial collaboration by enabling different government departments to communicate effectively and in real time.
LuxChat4gov has been around since 2018, when it was officially launched. Since then, the platform has steadily grown in popularity within Luxembourg’s public administrations, becoming an essential tool for secure government communication. In view of the numerous security advantages of this application, the Ministry of Digitalisation joined forces with LU-CIX ASBL and the Chamber of Commerce to then launch an ‘all-public’ version of ‘Luxchat’ intended for the general population.
The impact of LuxChat4gov on the way governments communicate and collaborate is significant. By providing a secure and user-friendly platform for government exchanges, LuxChat4gov helps build public trust in governments' ability to protect sensitive information and respect citizens' privacy. Moreover, by facilitating inter-ministerial communication, LuxChat4gov promotes effective coordination between different government departments, which can lead to faster and more consistent decision-making.

Marc Hansen, Minister for Digitalisation, also emphasised at the official launch of Luxchat4gov that these projects are also in line with the OECD recommendations presented in the study ‘Digital Government Review of Luxembourg – Towards more digital, innovative and inclusive public services’.
